Running an agent on a schedule
Running an agent on a schedule#
A job is a prompt an agent runs without anybody asking: a few words every weekday morning, or a report every Monday.
- Takes
- 5 minutes
- Needs
- an agent that is on
- For
- the person who runs this workspace
What a job is#
A job belongs to one agent, so it answers as itself and reports in the thread you tell it to. A job that is off runs nothing, and the agent's own switch still decides whether it answers at all.
Make one#
- Open the agent, and the part called Jobs.
- Give the job a name, and write the prompt it should run.
- Choose when it runs: every morning, every weekday, once a week.
- Save it, then turn it on.
A schedule of your own#
When the choices do not fit, write the schedule as five fields: minute, hour, day of the month, month, day of the week. Every weekday at nine is 0 9 * * 1-5, and the block below is yours to copy.
A schedule for every weekday at nine
0 9 * * 1-5
A job's runs are written in the thread it names, and each run counts against the workspace's allowance. A job whose agent is switched off waits instead of failing.
